Using the support DVD to re-install the Linux OS

When I run the Eee support disc in my Windows XP PC I first get – “Can't find DMI entry point” – I just close this box.

Then I get “To detect all devices, please install acpi driver first, would you like to continue ?” – I click on the NO box.

Then the Eee PC screen is on view with 4 tabs - Drivers, Utilities, Manual, Contact.

To restore your Eee to factory condition select “Utilities” - at that point you need a minimum 2G USB flash drive to be plugged in to the XP PC USB slot. I know that 2G is enough to restore the Linux OS of a 4G Eee, as I have done it. You then asked to “Copy the EEE PC image” etc.

Select “run” at this point, and then you are asked to confirm it. A formatting progress bar will show now. When the flash drive is formatted you will be asked to “Please pull out –” the flash drive and re-insert it. Remove the flash drive, pause a few seconds, and re-insert it.

After re-insertion click on the “Retry” box and the flash drive should then have the Eee OS transferred to it - you should see a progress bar about “Copying” When this is finished - and it takes quite a while, its a slow process - you should see a box with “Success format and copy !” - click on “OK”. Remove the flash drive correctly from the Windows PC and transfer it to the Eee and follow the handbook instructions to install the OS from a USB drive.
