How To Restore a 1000H XP without a DVD Drive
This guide will document how to create a bootable flash drive capable of recovering the 1000H without having to boot into Windows.
Note:
If you have Windows working on your 1000H, but just want to restore to factory defaults, you can follow steps 8 to 10. All you would need in this case is the 4GB drive to store the “EeePCAH.gho” and “Ghost32.exe” from the Support DVD. Then, ignoring the instructions for booting BartPE, boot into Windows XP, run “Ghost32.exe” from the drive, and follow the instructions from “Now, with Ghost…”. You will need to use a USB drive however as you cannot run Ghost from the hard drive you are restoring to.
Warnings
Have the EeePC plugged in at all times during the restoration, so that it doesn't shut down in the middle of the process.
Review each step multiple times before proceeding with it, and don't proceed with a step without knowing exactly what you're doing.
I claim no responsibility for any damage caused to your EeePC during this process. If you are uncomfortable following the steps on this guide or if you have little knowledge of computers, contact a professional or simply buy an external DVD drive.
Special thanks/credit to remi.rez for finding this solution; I am merely explaining it in a step by step process with more detail. (see: http://forum.eeeuser.com/viewtopic.php?pid=338171#p338171 for the original solution)

Steps
Download all needed files onto the computer with the non-OEM Windows installation or a computer with the Windows XP installation disc inserted into the drive.
Run the PEBuilder installer and open PE Builder, or if you downloaded the zip click on “pebuilder.exe” (with the red PE icon). Agree to the license and click Yes on the dialog “Search for Windows Installation files?”. If the dialog doesn't show up click Source > Search.
Once PeBuilder has found the files (either on the hard drive or on the CD, if you have both the CD is recommended), click on the drive that shows up and click OK. If it doesn't find any files, try a different CD or computer. Don't worry about the “custom” box, and change “output” to a different folder if you want (this is where it will put the build). Make sure “none” is selected in media output. Click build.
If errors come up during the build creation, you can proceed but I wouldn't recommend it. Make sure to review all the warnings and errors. If errors come up try a different computer or Installation CD.
Once the operation is completed, write down or copy the output directory (eg C:\Documents and Settings\User\BartPE) and exit PE Builder.
Open “PeToUSB.exe” from the zip file you downloaded. Make sure the destination drive is 256mb to 1.5GB. Browse to the path that you wrote down under “Source Path to Built BartPE/WinPE files”. Check “USB Removable”, “Enable Disk Format” and “Enable File Copy”. Before you start, keep in mind ALL DATA ON THE DRIVE WILL BE DELETED. So back up. Click Start.
If all goes well, your USB drive should be bootable into BartPE. Now to use the Restore DVD.
Insert the BartPE drive, the 4GB drive, and the Asus Restore DVD into your computer with a DVD drive. Extract the file”WinPE.iso” using WinRAR or a similar iso extraction tool. Get the file “Ghost32.exe” from the extracted iso and put it in the Programs folder on the BartPE USB drive. Put the file “EeePCAH.gho” from the “Recovery” folder on the DVD on the 4GB drive. Back up your important data on the 4GB drive, but if all goes well it shouldn't be deleted.
Eject the two USB drives and the DVD. Plug both USB drives into your EeePC. Boot up and repeatedly press ESC when booting at the white EeePC BIOS screen. Sometimes I find you have to press F2, exit the BIOS setup, and then press ESC immediately.
Select your BartPE drive from the list. The eee should now boot BartPE, a modified (and very slimmed down) version of XP. Click Go > Run and then browse to “Ghost32.exe” on the BartPE drive. Open it up. Now, with Ghost, click OK and then click Local > Disk > From Image. On the pulldown menu from the top, select your 4GB usb drive, navigate to the “EeePCAH.gho” file, and click ok. If it doesn't recognize the 4GB drive, copy the .gho file to another usb drive (over 2GB) and try again. On the select menu of which drive to restore to, choose the eeepc's hard drive, which should be around 76319
MB. Make sure you select the right drive. Select “OK”, and verify that you have the right .gho file “EeePCAH.gho” and the right drive. At the partition screen, select OK to restore the eee to the original 3 partitions. You should get a warning that you will proceed to erase and restore the entire drive; double check everything and select OK to continue. Wait for Ghost to restore off the image (don't touch anything while it's processing), and reboot. Congratulations! If all went well, you should be now back at the Windows setup screen.
