Possible future models

When the Eee PC was first announced, ASUS claimed it was going to be available in a number of different screen sizes. Upon the actual product release, however, ASUS decided to stick to one screen size (7”) for all four Eee models.

An outdated numbering scheme once divided Eee models by screen size and internal configuration, resulting in model names like the Eee PC 701, 801, etc. These model numbers are no longer used; instead, the 7” Eee PC is simply called the “Eee PC”, and the four variants are known as the 8G, 4G, 4G Surf, and 2G Surf.

It is speculated that other screen sizes may be released at a later date:

(These models are referred to by their now-oudated model numbers, and it is unknown what actual name or number they will bear should they ever be released)

  • The Eee PC 700 may be a downgraded variant designed to meet the Eee's originally-promised price of $199 USD1).
  • The Eee PC 801 may be a variant with an 8” display. At this time the only reference to this model appears on a ASUS FAQ page2) that has been put up and removed several times.
  • The Eee PC 1001 may be a variant with a larger chassis and a higher-resolution 10” screen. A prototype was demonstrated prior to the Eee's official launch, but Asus has since decided against a retail release. An Asus statement from November 2007 claims ”[there] are no plans for a 10” at the moment”3).
