Following the How-to about Mandriva 2008 on an external hard drive, I set up my favorite distro on the internal hard drive using the Mandriva 2008.1 “one” cd.
/usr/src/ and /share/bin/ on the sd-card with symbolic links leading to them.
I chose xfce 4.4 as a window manager with compiz set-up.
The result is amazing, very reactive set-up with hardly any lag when starting applications thanks to packages like Thunar, Mousepad, and Terminal.
With Mandriva 2008.1 being only at a beta stage, it is a very good solution for the Eee pc. Not only is it a very good way to promote linux around the community, I have used it for fairly demanding tasks in office work using multiple spreadsheet table as well as Photo manipulation using Gimp and a usb scanner (xsane), all worked very well with no noticeable lag in the system.
The versions :
* Kernel : 2.6.24.2-laptop-4mdv
