Adding an English / Other Language Dictionary to StarOffice 8
The default installation of StartOffice 8 on the Eee 901/1000 only provides Russian and Polish dictionaries by default. In order to install English or other language dictionaries we must run the DicOOo v1.8 dictionary installation wizard.
Enable Macros in StarOffice 8
- Open StarOffice Writer
- Go to Tools → Options → StarOffice Security
- Click on the Macro Security… button and change the Security Level to Low (not recommended)
- Ok all dialogs and exit the application
Run the DicOOo v1.8 dictionary installation wizard
- In Firefox click on the following link
http://ftp.services.openoffice.org/pub/OpenOffice.org/contrib/dictionaries/dicooo/DicOOo.sxw
- Select Open with soffice (default) and select Ok
- Click on English
- Click on the 'Start DicOOo' button
- Click Next
- On Spelling Checker Dictionaries click on 'Retrieve the list' & select your required dictionary
- On Hyphenation Dictionaries click on 'Retrieve the list' & select your required dictionary
- On Thesaurus Dictionaries click on 'Retrieve the list' & select your required dictionary
- Click Next
- Click Finish
Configure StarOffice
- In StarOffice Writer go to Tools → Options
- In StarOffice Security click on the Macro Security… button and change the Security Level to High
- In Language Settings / Languages change the default language to your preferred language.
- In Language Settings / Writing Aids click on the Edit button with OpenOffice.org Hunspell SpellChecker
- Ensure the language of your Spelling, Hyphenation and Thesaurus dictionaries are set to your language.
