derred's pimpmyeee.sh

Unlike the other tools mentioned below, pimpmyeee.sh is a script and needs to be run from terminal. This means that it does not have a separate graphical interface but it does have a menu. To run an item listed in the menu, all you have to do is to type the relevant number (or letter) and to press [ENTER].

derred's pimpmyeee.sh was the inspiration for marf's Tweakee.

You can read more about pimpmyeee.sh on the forum

Download

You can download derred's pimpmyeee.sh script here. For the sake of consistency for this article it is suggested that you download it to your /home/user/ directory

Running pimpmyeee.sh

Once it is downloaded, you should rename it pimpmyeee.sh (i.e. delete the version number from the name) and then run it:

  1. Open a terminal (Ctrl+Alt+t) and run:
    sh /home/user/pimpmyeee.sh

When you run the script it will give you options set out above, including:
    4. Enable extra repositories (overrides custom repositories).I

When you run the script it will give you options to do the following:

  1. Enable Full Desktop (KDE)
  2. Enable all codec support
  3. Disable SCIM (chinese keyboard input option / on by default)
  4. Enable extra repositories (overrides custom repositories)
  5. Install cool Black theme (ThinBlack)
  6. Install cool Mac theme (SmoothyFeelings)
  7. Remove the SOS and Eee PC Tips icons from the Easy Mode toolbar
  8. Add camera on and off scripts
  9. Quit

The numbers above are not representative of the numbers and letters used in pimpmyeee.sh but it should be clear from the context that, to run an item listed in the menu, all you have to do is to type the relevant number (or letter) and to press [ENTER].

Adding Repositories

  1. Press 4 and [ENTER]

This will replace your current sources.list with one containing the following repositories:

# Standard repos
deb http://update.eeepc.asus.com/p701/ p701 main
deb http://update.eeepc.asus.com/p701/en/ p701 main

deb http://www.geekconnection.org/ xandros4 main

# Debian repos
deb http://http.us.debian.org/debian/ etch main contrib non-free

It will also create a preferences file as follows:

Tips

  • There is no reason why, when you first run pimpmyeee.sh, you can't, for example, sequentially run Enable all codec support, Disable SCIM, Enable extra repositories, Remove the SOS and Eee PC Tips icons from the Easy Mode toolbar and Add camera on and off scripts. You could, in theory, run all of the menu itemas but it is suggested you leave the ones not mentioned above till later.
  • You should run sudo apt-get update in terminal before installing a program to ensure you have the most up-to-date software available.
  • When run sudo apt-get update, you may get some messages that appear worrying. In particular using the sources.list set up by pimpmyeee.sh you may get ones beginning W: and containing the phrase “The following signatures couldn't be verified because the public key is not available”. If you are only using the trusted repositories above, you can ignore these. If you get messages starting E: you may want to search the forum or ask on the forum before proceedings.
  • As you can see from the above, derred does not like the Community Repository and has commented it out. If you need to use that repository, you can edit sources.list to delete the # in the line #deb http://download.tuxfamily.org/eeepcrepos/ p701 main etch.
