Howto: Remote Control EeePC

There are several ways to remotely work on your eeePC.

  • Using telnet Fastest, but not very safe: limit use to local networks without WiFi. Logs you into a command line only.
  • Using ssh Secure, slower than telnet, command line. The standard Linux admin tool.
  • Using X11 With X11 you can render a window on another system running X windows. Can be tunnelled through SSH for security.
  • Using NX NoMachine's NX is fast, secure and can be used to display and control the whole remote desktop, or a single program running on it. Your Linux EEE can be controlled from your Windows or Linux desktop over SSH.
  • Using vnc Remote desktop (but not for Xandros), most versions insecure by default.
  • Using synergy, Allows you to control the laptop using the keyboard and mouse of another computer buy moving the mouse pointer off one screen and onto another. Can be tunnelled through SSH for security.

There is also a native method to control your eeepc using vncviewer from another pc running linux or windows.

On your eeepc, open your terminal and type krfb, this will bring up an Invitation - Desktop Sharing window.

If you want to create a permanent password for desktop sharing, use the configure button and check on the “Uninvited Connections'.
