gtkpod allows you to move files to and from your iPod. The latest version of libgpod (0.6.0) supports the newest generation of iPods. You can find more information at http://gtkpod.wikispaces.com/
If you haven't already, follow the instructions at http://eeepcrepos.tuxfamily.org/
Now you have two choices:
Launch Synaptic. Click the reload button. Then scroll down the list until you find gtkpod. Mark to install and click Apply.
Open a console. Type “sudo apt-get install gtkpod” (without ””). Press enter.
Plug in the iPod. If Music Manager opens, open the Settings menu, scroll the left pane down to Attached Devices and remove the iPod device. Close it.
Open a console. Type mount. If your ipod isn't listed, you mount it with the command:
mount /dev/sdc1 /mnt/ipod
The first time, you will need to run (from the console) “ipod-read-sysinfo-extended /dev/sdc1 /mnt/ipod” (without ””). You can find more information at http://gtkpod.wikispaces.com/Sysinfo+File#ClassicNano3g
I don't have a new gen iPod, so the above instructions are theoretical. I tested the software with my iPod video 30GB (5.5 gen).
