Creating an Image

Making a Bootable USB Stick

With the accompanying CD of the eeePC I was able to format a USB stick, install the software onto it and finally do a fresh install from the stick instead an optical drive. Fresh install with booting from the eeePC-CD worked anyway very well and as described.

Advantages

The biggest is that boot time would be much, much lower as we don't compile modules we don't need. We could compile commonly used hardware into the kernel rather than load it as a module, too.

Also, we can choose to compile features that are optimized for our hardware versus more-general features.

Note!

The following instructions are for etch, which is now oldstable. It is highly recommended you use lenny (or newer, if you desire). The Debian EeePC Project provides an installer that makes it easy to install lenny. You can, if desired, use a standard Debian installer as well.

TUEP Linux will be a derivative of an existing distribution because we don't want to go to the effort of starting from scratch or maintaining security patches.

Each page will contain a list of pros and cons, as well as instructions on how to create it.

Introduction

The Untitled Eee Project (TUEP) is a community effort to provide a software package, including an operating system, appropriate to the limited hardware of the Eee PC.

Goals

Create an alternative to the Xandros operating system that ships with the Eee PC

Overview

Bellow is the documentation for creating a Debian-based LiveCD using the bootcdwrite package from the

Debian developers. This procedure builds a fully functioning LiveCD from an already working/installed

base system, so you will need to have a customized (or not) install of Debian residing on a

Computer/Virtual Machine/Somewhere.
