In either Simple or Full Desktop Mode, I found the keyboard frequently stopped working in a given application window (for example, my editor jEdit, or Konsole). The window would still receive mouse input, and key combinations received by the window manager would still work (e.g. Alt+F4 to close window) just not keyboard input to the application itself.

This is a bug that affects shutdown on the Eee PC 901 running Linux. Instead of shutting down properly, the power LEDs stay on and the screen goes black with a flashing cursor in the top corner.

Shutdown problems have been reported on other Eee PC models.
This page describes a fix for a sound module problem that causes similar symptoms, but the 901 seems to ship with a similar fix already applied. BIOS updates have also been recommended, but at the time of writing, an Eee PC 901 with the la…

You must reset your BIOS (CMOS) in one of several ways:

Before the process please unplug battery and powercord then push the power button for 20 sec. Then try doing one of this:

1) Hold down the power button for 10 seconds. It will reset the bios in some machines OR

The power button is linked to a script in /etc/acpi called powerbtn.sh, which is run as the default Xandros user. powerbtn.sh calls dcop to send a signal to all open applications to get ready to close.

When your run any root-level KDE applications, (such as the root File Browser), this session is owned by the root user and as such the power button script silently fails because it doesn't have permission to read root's .ICEauthority file.

This is a common problem when enabling the advanced desktop. Following the instructions from other sites (laptopmag, downloadsquad, etc.) seems to be the main reason. If you carefully read the wiki page Enable Advanced Desktop Mode, you will have all the information you need.

Bug Fixes: Update breaks Firefox

This problem might be temporary but updating the advanced desktop breaks the shortcuts to FireFox. From the forums this might be a change of name to iceweasel? Don't reinstall the system :-\ The solution (provided by mrmot in the forums):

Edit... shortcut by Wilden from the forums: To fix it go into console and type
sudo apt-get install eeepc-updatepack-20071126

1.) Open the synaptic package manager from Launch:Applications:System
