How to restore factory default settings on Xandros (default) linux

Retrieving Files

If you have files that you want to save, follow these instructions. If you don't mind wiping your hard drive without saving files, skip to Restoring Factory Settings

Getting a live distro

First, you will need at least one (preferably two) flash drives or SD cards. Now, download breezy linuxand unzip it to a flash drive. Eject your flash drive from your “everyday” computer.

Booting the EEE PC with the live distro

Now, take your EEE PC and shut it down. Unplug it and pull the battery if you have to. Plug the flash drive in and hit the power button. Immediately after hitting the power button, start tapping escape. A menu will appear with a few different options. One should resemble the name of your flash drive. Use the arrow keys to scroll down until this option is highlighted. Then hit enter to select it. Now your EEE PC will boot up off the flash drive. Now, plug in your second SD card or flash drive. (don't unplug the first) Click on the Drives icon and select your user partition (usually sdb). All your files will be saved in this partition. Copy them across to the second flash drive. Now shut down the EEE PC and check to make sure you have all your data, because the originals will be erased.

Restoring Factory Settings

WARNING, ALL DATA WILL BE ERASED.

Power down the EEE PC (unplug it and pull the battery if you have to). Now hit the power button and immediately start madly tapping the F9 key (like your trying to kill aliens). This will bring up the grub menu. Use the arrow keys to highlight “Restore Factory Settings” then hit enter. The EEE PC will ask you to confirm, key in yes, NOT y, to continue. Now reboot. Your EEE PC should be restored to factory

You can also restore your computer with the included recovery disk, instructions are in the owners manual.
