This can sometimes be annoying, for exampel if you want to move your laptop and closes the lid, it goes down into standby mode. It takes pretty much as long time to boot from standby as a cold boot takes.
To disable standby when lidcloses
sudo kwrite /etc/acpi/events/lidbtn
Then add a # in front of the actionline If should look like this:
# /etc/acpi/events/lidbtn event=button[ /]lid #action=/etc/acpi/lidbtn.sh
