Derivative Distribution

TUEP Linux will be a derivative of an existing distribution because we don't want to go to the effort of starting from scratch or maintaining security patches.

Each page will contain a list of pros and cons, as well as instructions on how to create it.

The options we are currently exploring are:

• Base install of Debian
• Minimal install of Ubuntu
• Ubuntu Mobile and Embedded

Choose one of the following three methods:

• Set up a secondary computer and install a Linux distribution directly to the hard drive.
• Partition your existing hard drive and install a Linux distribution in dual-boot mode.
• Download a virtual machine (VirtualBox by innotek is freely available) and install the Linux distribution to the virtual hard drive. Follow the instructions that come with the software. Firstly you will need to define the hard drive, and then you will need to mount an .iso file as a CD drive.
