a GUI for the eee.ko

eee_and_me has written a GUI which with eeecontrol 0.2 by bexbier is a frontend for the eee.ko module by Andrew Tipton. This Program can control Fan and FSB and allow you to view its current status. The eee.ko is included in deb file which you download.

You can download the zip file containing the deb file from here

Open console and type sudo dpkg -i /path-to-the-deb-file (where path-to-the-deb-file is the path to the deb file and not what you actually type)

After installation, you should find a shortcut called “eeecontrol 0.2” on your Launch Menu at Applications > Utility

The Program starts on the system tray.

You can Left Click on the icon to toggle show/hide of the main GUI window. Right Click on the icon exits the Program.

Using Manual Control, you can set the fan, fsb and vmod manually; just select the speed on the left and then click on “set …”.

If you want to overclock, it is important that as you change the speed yo do so in little steps, otherwise you risk crashing the PC.

If you want to overclock to a high level, set VMOD on, otherwise the system won't be stable and may crash.

Using Autocontrol, you can set some parameters for auto controlled fan e.g.:

• starttemp = 57 ( temperature to start the fan )
• startfan = 100 ( fan would be set at 100% )
• stoptemp = 55 ( temperature to stop the fan )
• stopfan = 0 ( fan would be set at 0% )

With these settings the fan starts at 100% if the temperature is 57°C and “stops/runs slow” if the temperature is 55°C. Note: the stop parameters must be smaller than the start parameters.

• RUN AUTOCONTROL AT STARTUP = autocontrol starts at PROGRAM STARTUP
• RUN EEECONTROL AT STARTUP = eeecontrol starts at PC STARTUP
• CHANGES ON THE MENU WILL ONLY BE SET IF YOU CLICKED ON “SET CONFIG” !
• AUTOCONTROL RUNS ONLY IF THE PROGRAM IS ACTIVE (ICON IN SYSTEM TRAY) !

Type in Console dpkg -r eeecontrol

ATTENTION !! IF EEECONTROL IS RUNNING AND YOU SHUTDOWN OR RESTART, THE FAN WOULD RUN WITH THE LAST PARAMETER. IF YOU DO NOT SET IT THAT EEECONTROL AND AUTOCONTROL RUNS AT STARTUP YOU SHOULD EXIT EEECONTROL BEFORE SHUTDOWN OR RESTART.
