This page is intended for all and sundry to list the speed of their disk (and disk-like) devices with any benchmark they like, so we have comparisons. Please note that numbers from different benchmarks are actually not comparable to each other! If possible post ONLY speedtests with the stock processorspeed (630Mhz), and stock RAM (512Mb 667mhz). Preferrably in the xandros default desktop. Please wite out any non-stock settings; to have an as accurate as possible measurement.

eg: * Advanced desktop/eeexubuntu/… * 1/2Gb ram; RAM speed if differs from stockspeed eg:800mhz or pc4200/5300/6400/… * Procesor speed ran in the test: 5xx/630/7xx/8xx/900/1000Mhz

Note:most of these tests need to be re-taken

Comment on the above (by eFfeM):
The memory speed (pc4200/5300/6400) does not make any difference as the memory controller will still just drive the memory at the same frequency, irrespective of the speed of the memory itself.
Memory size should not make a difference either as the test should be written in such a way that memory size and caching does not matter.
Clock speed might make a small difference, but I expect it to be neglectable (this is easily tested).
Other things might make a difference (e.g. run as root or run as user, other programs running at the same time, temperature, …).

hdparm (tests read speeds only - takes seconds)
Before installation, install repositories per Adding Additional Software Repositories
Install:

sudo apt-get install hdparm

Use: sudo hdparm -t /dev/sda1
To see your version: sudo hdparm -v (it's at the top - it can be saved to a file with “sudo hdparm -v 2>hdparmhelp.txt” and read with “cat hdparmhelp.txt”)
Explanation:

t /dev/sda1 means test /dev/sda1  (use the "df" command to see what is what)

Note: I have noted this sometimes reports a lower value than the majority runs may want to run more than one time to assure consistent- rivethead

Bonnie++ (tests read, write, CPU %, etc. :
Before installation, install repositories per Adding Additional Software Repositories
Install:

sudo apt-get install bonnie++

Example: sudo bonnie++ -u user -d ”/tmp” -s 100 -r 10 -f -n 0
Explanation:

d "/tmp" means test the /tmp directory (the ramdisk) (double-quotes required if spaces are in the path)
u user means act as user "user" - your regular username!
s 100 means use 100MB files.
r 10 means tell bonnie++ you only have 10MB of RAM, so it doesn't say you need to use huge files (for the Eee) to get results.
f means skip per-character tests - they're rather pointless, and we'd like to avoid excess wear and tear.
n 0 means skip the file creation tests, which are CPU bound.

Standardization: Use the “block” results Problem: Results of +++++ will be returned if the test size is too small. They recommend test files twice the size of RAM for a reason, to prevent caching from significantly affecting results. Increase the number after -s to handle this.

Be aware that the RSMMC/MMC mobile adapters that clip on and allow you to insert the card into the reader are not very nice and may actually cause it to jam inside, I almost got one stuck. I've come across this before with a couple of brands of RSMMC and readers. Full size MMC cards are fine.
