====== Opening a Terminal Window ====== Throughout this wiki and in many other documents pertaining to the EEE PC, you will be asked to "open a terminal window". for those unfamiliar with Linux, a terminal, or [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shell_%28computing%29|shell]] is a way for you to enter commands to the computer. If you've been using computers for some time, it's much like DOS, but much more powerful. If you don't like the default terminal application, you can [[howto:changeconsole|change it to another one]] (rxvt/mrxvt/konsole/lxterm for example). ===== Opening a terminal in Easy Mode ===== Simply press the CTRL, ALT and T keys on your keyboard all at the same time. The default terminal program in Easy mode is named lxterm. ===== Opening a terminal with the standard EeePC interface ===== Open the Work tab, start the File Manager than click Tools menu, Open Console Window. This will launch the Konsole program. ===== Opening a terminal in KDE Mode (Advanced Mode) ===== Click on the Kicker icon in the bottom left-hand corner of your screen (where your Start Menu would be in Windows) and navigate to Applications → System → Console (KDE Desktop) ===== Mapping Ctl+Alt+t to launch Konsole in Advanced Mode ===== Click on the Kicker icon in the bottom left-hand corner of your screen (where your Start Menu would be in Windows) and navigate to Control Centre → Control Centre, and select General Settings → Key Assignments.
