====== Customizing icons for Easy Mode ====== **NOTE:** Since a recent update from Asus, the default icon size has changed from 120x120 to 130x130. This means that the icons created in the methods outlined below will be smaller than the new ones and the text below the icons will overlap them. A BETA version ImageMagick script to resolve this has been created by SteveLawUK and needs testing - see this thread on the forum. To run it you will also need to install ImageMagick. ===== The Wizard Way ===== Download **SublimePorte**'s launcher tools from the 3epc User Portal website and follow the easy instructions there. One of the tools to be downloaded is a utility to generate AsusLauncher compatible icons from standard icons. Another is an icon adder/remover (see below), so you can easily place icons in your AsusLauncher tabs and remove them. You can (and probably should) also download **Coyotee**'s AsusLauncher Advanced Editor (EmEditor) from the eeeuser.com forum which works well with SublimePorte's tools. It takes a bit of getting used to knowing which tool is best for which purpose. ===== The Semi-automated Way (by script) ===== * Make sure imagemagick is installed (sudo apt-get install imagemagick) * Create a working folder (e.g. mkdir /home/user/EmIcons) * Download the icon templates (from the "Manual Way" section below) and save them in that folder * Download this archive and extract the script to that folder * Download the desired icon to the working folder * Run the script sh MakeEmIcon.sh The script will also attempt to install the icons to the correct folder. Once the files are in place, the icon will show up in Easy Mode Editor (emeditor). //The script was written by solenostomus and SteveLawUk with lots of help, feedback and suggestions from Niel1952 and other forum users.// ===== The Manual Way ===== 1. First of all you need a decent photo editing program. I use Adobe Photoshop but you could use Paint Shop Pro or Gimp. ---- **** 2. You then need to get the blank templates for the Asus icons. They can be found in the /opt/xandros/share/AsusLauncher/ directory or you can save the ones below. ---- **** 3. You will also need to make a blank 120 x 120 pixel image. To do this; Open Photoshop (or your preferred program), select File -> New and then enter in 120x120 pixels and select 'transparent' in the background content drop box. ---- **** 4. Now it's time to pick a graphic for the icons. I find that the easiest place to source a good quality image for an application is from wikipedia. **Example**: Goto http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frostwire and click on the frostwire icon on the right hand side. __Note__: You may need to resize the graphic to 80 x 80 pixels so it matches the size of all the other icons already in your easy mode menu. To do this goto Image -> Image size, and then change the dimensions. ---- **** 5. Now you need to copy the graphic to the blank templates. To do this: - Open the blank templates & the graphic in Photoshop. - Click on the box with the graphic in and press CTRL + A (This highlights the entire graphic). - Then press CTRL + C to copy the graphic. - Now click on each blank template one by one (including the transparent 120x120 image you made) and press CTRL + V (This will place the graphic in the center of the icon). ---- **** 6. Save the final product as a .PNG ====== Adding icons to Easy Mode ====== ===== The Wizard Way ===== ==== SublimePorte's launcher tools ==== Download **SublimePorte**'s launcher tools from the 3epc User Portal website and follow the easy instructions there. According to the website "This fourth release has three tools, the first is a fully graphical editor for the simpleui.rc file, so you can easily place icons, folders and tabs in your AsusLauncher tabs and remove & edit them. The second is a tool to reload the AsusLauncher GUI without closing all your programs. ie. to refresh the AsusLauncher and the third is a utility to generate AsusLauncher compatible icons from standard icons." Iconifier will scale an icon to the required size but often introduces jagged artefacts when it does this. For best quality, make sure the PNG image you pass it is around 80x80 pixels, you can adjust the size and position whilst creating the icon. \\ \\ ==== Coyotee's AsusLauncher Advanced Editor (EmEditor) ==== In addition there is **Coyotee**'s AsusLauncher Advanced Editor (EmEditor) which you can download here and read about on the eeeuser.com forum.\\ \\ === Instructions: === == Method 1: == 1. download .DEB file from the link above (save it to your home dir or where you prefer). 2. open File Manager, go to the dir where you saved the .Deb 3. right-click the .deb and select "Install DEB file...". 4.
