1. You must have advance desktop enabled. You can find the wiki here >http://wiki.eeeuser.com/howto:getkde.
2. You must have all repositories installed. Shown in http://wiki.eeeuser.com/howto:beginners_guide.
3D Desktop is self explanatory, a 3D Desktop manager. If you have ever wondered what those little numbers with colors behind them on your task bar are used for, well now you do. They are made to work without a “3D Desktop” but they have been made to work with it. In the picture above you only see 4. You can add as few as 1 or as many as 20 :).
Goto Launch>Applications>System>Synaptic Package Manager.
Then click on any one of the items and type 3ddesktop.
It should show up with one item. Click the little check box and click mark for installation.
Then type in xandros-3ddesktop. Do the same as above. This time it will ask you to accept.
Once that is done click apply at the top.
It now should install and be ready to go.
To get into it all you have to do is press F12. From there you can do a few things to scroll.
1. You can use the left and right arrow keys to scroll and enter to select.
2. You can use the left and right mouse buttons and the middle one to select.
3. You can press R to give you a random one then hit enter to select. My favorite :).
If you thought that was all it could do then you are very wrong :).
First go into your console and type
su
And then your password so you can have root access.
Next type in
kwrite /ect/3ddesktop.conf
In the file you will see a great amount of stuff to play around with.
You should see somthing in the file that looks like this:
view default ## this is the default if no --view specified zoom on show_digit on digit_size 100 digit_color green use_breathing false
If you don't like the numbers at the top of the 3D desktop then edit the part of the file that says:
show_digit on
to say:
show_digit off
Or if you like them but hate the color or just want to make them smaller, then change the part of the file that says:
digit_size 100 digit_color green
To say the settings that you want.
Now it gets real fun. There are a bunch of modes in the 3D Desktop besides the default.
To see the other modes you can type 3ddesk–mode= and any of these modes, carousel, cylinder, linear, viewmaster, priceisright, flip, or random.
For example open up your consle and type:
3ddesk--mode=cylinder
To view it as a cylinder.
I hope you have enjoyed this wiki and use the 3d desktop manger to your hearts content.
